Camping Adventures - Emily PP

In 2016 we went to Emily PP with the Learn to Camp Program as Graduates.  It was really our way to take advantage of one more year of affordable camping before we committed to buying camping gear of our own. The year before we had been to Sibbald Point and though we loved it, the kids wanted to try canoeing so I looked for a park with canoe rentals.

It was crazy hot year - and I remembered the parks having a ban on bonfires that year because it was so dry.  By the time we arrived to the campsite, it had 'cooled' down a bit and the ban was lifted.  Still, we were SOOOOO HOT

Not happy with the heat

We joined the Learn to Camp Graduates program this time.  This was our last trial before deciding on investing in our own gear.

The kids, of course, wanted to join the Learn to Fish Program again -- I have to say that this set up at Emily was better than the one at Sibbald. I really enjoyed sitting and seeing the kids and hubby fish.

The Park store is a lot simpler at Emily though.  The only thing we got was Ice cream here.  But at the Park store you can get boat, canoe, paddle board, and fishing gear rentals.

Sites - The sites are nice - the ones we had was very close to the beach area. You can see how much space there is (we parked two cars)

Getting some water

Canoeing - The main reason we came to Emily was for the canoeing experience.  We rented (for free) fishing gear and PFDs and off we went.

We were TERRIBLE at canoing :D  ....we went in circles over and over....I blame it on my husband :D (but we had fun) - we were completely unprepared so we had our backpack, our phones, our cameras ...everything with no waterproof pouches.

Unfortunately, I don't have any more pictures of our camping trip - 30 minutes after our canoeing trip, our canoe flipped!!!! We were all in the water, gear and all, but you can tell we were relaxed cause no one panicked or cried!!!!  We calmly found the shore, flipped the canoe and to our surprise all our gear with the exception of only one fishing rod was still floating! Thank God! Car keys, wallets, etc were still there - though wet

We were lucky that the SD card on the camera didn't spoil - and that my iphone somehow miraculously kept these pictures - everything else was lost - but hey, we have a great story to tell about Emily PP for sure!!!!!!

The rest of the trip was great - the beach is small - there is a day beach and a beach for campers - the water isn't clear because of all the plankton but we didn't mind it at all.  We stayed for 2 nights and on our second night it rained all night.  It was wet but in a way I was glad it rained so that we experienced camping in wet weather too.  Our leaders were nice enough to let us off the hook on packing day - we were the last group of the summer program so we were allowed to leave the tents unpacked because they needed to clean and clear everything and save them for storage.

Emily is a great PP - the beach might not be its highlight but in its place there is a lot of other things to do.  Worth going!
