My Story

Life has taken me to so many places and experiences it is hard summarize my story.  I guess the easiest way is to just tell you who I am and where I am from.

But these two questions were the two most difficult questions to answer for a big part of my life.

I was born in Hong Kong but my family moved to Peru when I was 6 years old.  As a child I remember having it all in Hong Kong.  But as soon as we arrived to Peru the life as I knew it completely changed.

I do remember feeling depressed when I was about 8 years old.  I was looking for a point to life - a purpose.

It was around that time my parents started going to church.  I discovered that God loved me.

Who was I?  I learned I had an open invitation to become the daughter of the King of Kings if I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior.  There was really never too much doubt.  In fact, it was a relief when I found out about Jesus!  My identity was in Christ.

Fast forward some years.  I am now 16 years old and living in Three Hills, Alberta.  Then I moved to Calgary to finish my undergraduate degree.  And then my brother Andy was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away.  These years in Alberta were my happiest and saddest years.  But above all else, I experienced God's presence in a very real and personal manner.  To me, there is no doubt God is real.  And not just that...He desires for us to live life with Him and for Him.

I finished a graduate degree in BC and started working in Vancouver.  After 10 years of courtship I married Stephen and we moved to New York City.  Two years after that we moved back to Canada - this time Toronto.

We have been living in Toronto for a while now.  We have two kids.  I am a stay at home mom.  God has never left us and He has been the only thing that has not changed in my life all these years.

Where are you from?  I no longer obsess with this question either.  Where am I from?  Everywhere I suppose.  It really doesn't matter because I know that no matter where life ends up taking me, God will be there for me, with me and ahead of me.

When it is all stripped away...

I first heard of CRASH Japan  through facebook, after March 11, 2011, when the terrible earthquake followed by the tsunami hit Japan.   CRASH Japan , or Christian Relief Assistance Support Hope serves local churches in Japan by mobilizing the body of CHrist to bring help and hope to people affected by disasters.  Our church raised some money and sent it to assist as part of our response.  We also told everyone to pray. But I have to admit part of me assumed Japan would be 'fine'.  After all, Japan isn't Haiti.  They have money, I told myself.  They have technology.  Yes, this was terrible, but they will be fine.  The Japanese people are a very resilient people. And as other world news happened and took over the old news of Japan, so I also began to 'move on'.  I did wonder every now and then how Japan was coping, especially as CRASH Japan's facebook page reminded me every now and again that there was still work there.  But these were only fleeting moments.

Just do it ... and bring along your kids

"Mission is risky.  It involves putting ourselves out of our comfort zones and dealing with people we ordinarily might not engage with" - Right Here Right Now Lately I've been learning more about missions.  I have been challenged to rethink my beliefs on what God considers as His mission, where I fit into that picture, how motherhood fits into this calling, and what missional living really means. It has been a great year of stretching my mind, of paradigm shifts, of challenging me to make changes in my life and my family's life. But one thing kept on bugging me.... Jesus was a rebel in his times.  He never set up a church building or assigned people to start different programs or ministries.  He simply lived with the everyday people of his time.  He simply went to where 'they' were.  He met prostitutes, tax collectors, sinners.... The little boy and his sister

Once upon a time there was a little boy and his sister.  They loved to watch TV and play games.  One day the little boy decided to ask mommy if she could help them do a lemonade stand.  But his mommy at first said no...and then said yes but never really got to it.  So the boy kept asking and asking until one day, his mommy said "yes". Then his mommy asked the boy and his sister what they would do with the money they earned.  The boy had not thought about that so he had no answer.  So his mom suggested they consider raising money to help the kids in Niger they had been hearing about at church. They had heard that there was a country called Niger, in Africa...it was supposed to be far far away.   People had shown them pictures of people who lived there and they had even met a missionary whose family was living there now, helping the people there gain skills so that they can have the means to take care of themselves.  The boy remembered also hearing that many people in N
