Books I love

Books that have encouraged and challenged me lately:

The Emotionally Healthy Church - you can't be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature.

Exiles:  Living missionally in a Post-Christian Culture - "This book is for the many people who wish to be faithful followers of the radical Jesus but no longer find themselves able to fit into the bland, limp, unsavory straightjacket of a church that seems to be yearning to return to the days when "everyone" used to attend church and "Christian family values" reigned.  This book is for those who can't remain in the safe modes of church and who wish to live expansive, confident Christian lives int he world without having to abandon themselves to the values of contemporary society"...page 3

Sacred Parenting - Reading this now - it's about how to God gives some of us the gift to be parents to draw us closer to Him

The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity - Still working on this book - it's been a healing book for me.  A book that has answered questions I have had for years about the way I am wired

Right Here Right Now - made me think about what I believe is the role of the church in caring and loving people right here.  Am I doing anything to reach out to my neighbours, to the people that live by the church, to the moms I see while waiting for my kids' piano, ballet and other classes?

The Missional Mom - it encouraged me to live life beyond the confines of wanting the best for my family.  To see God's purpose for me as a wife, woman, mother and simply, a human being.

The Shack - fictional book with real life themes.  The first book I was able to read through (in 3 days straight) after having kids!

One Thousand Gifts - we missed so much during our mundane lives....this helped me refocus on the beauty of every blessing God gives us...even while doing dishes, rushing the kids to school, laundry time...

Love and War - a Devotional book my husband and I use.  It's written by a couple so it is refreshing to see the 2 perspectives.

Parenting beyond your capacity - it's not about parenting in an island - we need to partner with others in the process!
